U.S. and Vietnam Strengthen Cooperation on Security and Law Enforcement

TCVM - Washington, D.C., September 5, 2025 - The United States and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to closer collaboration on security and law enforcement during the second U.S.-Vietnam Law Enforcement and Security Dialogue, held September 4-5 in Washington, D.C.

The dialogue was co-chaired by Chris Landberg, Senior Bureau Official of the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, and Vietnamese Vice Minister of Public Security Lê Quốc Hùng, with participation from interagency delegations of both countries. Vice Minister of Public Security Lê Quốc Hùng at the first U.S.-Vietnam Law Enforcement and Security Dialogue Discussions covered a wide range of pressing security and transnational crime issues, including maritime and supply chain security, money laundering, illegal immigration, narcotics trafficking, cybercrime, wildlife trafficking, human trafficking, and financial crimes. Both sides also focused on strengthening cooperation against online scam operations, which have increasingly affected citizens and businesses in both nations. In addition, the delegations reviewed priorities for training in law enforcement and criminal justice, while exploring mechanisms to expand cooperation to address shared challenges posed by transnational organized crime. The dialogue is part of ongoing efforts under the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, aimed at bolstering mutual security and advancing shared goals for a free and open Indo-Pacific. Officials emphasized that greater collaboration will make both countries stronger, safer, and more prosperous.
